Hardin County Historic Preservation Commission
The Hardin County Historic Preservation Commission consists of volunteers appointed by the Board of Supervisors. The purpose of the commission is to work with unincorporated area and community residents on historic preservation issues. The commission owns the Slayton Farms Round Barn in the northern part of the county. It has been active in receiving grants to study, document, and nominate historic structures and other cultural resources to the National Register of Historic Places. The commission is a partner with the Hardin County ISU-Extension Service Office on a project to survey and document all surviving historic barns in the county. The commission is a consulting partner to the State Historic Preservation Office on all Section 106 reviews of the impact to cultural resources for federally-funded project undertakings in the county.
