History of the Recorder's Office

The Office of the County Recorder was created by the First Legislative Assembly of the Territory of Iowa in 1839. Your County Recorder continues to maintain official records of documents affecting title to real estate in order to preserve property rights and protect innocent third parties in real estate transactions.

The County Recorder is an elected position. They are elected during the general election and their term in office last 4 years. There are no term limits in this office.
