Q. What permits are need when building a new house?

Typically three permits are needed in Hardin County when building a new home:

  1. Building permit - $100
  2. Well permit - $125
  3. Septic permit - $100

Driveway permits must be obtained from the Engineer's Office. Check with the city hall if you are building within an incorporated town.


 

Q. How do I get a 911 address?
You can obtain a 911 address by contacting the Sheriff's Office at 61-939-8189.

 
Q. Do I need a permit to build a structure other than a home?
Yes. Hardin County requires that a permit be obtained before any structure is erected, altered, constructed, reconstructed, or moved.

 
Q. Are there inspections required when building? 

Once the permit to build has been issued, no further inspections are needed. Hardin County does not have a building inspector.


 
Q. What is the minimum acreage required for building?
The minimum acreage required depends upon the zoning of the particular property. Typically, 2 acreas is the minimum size lot.
